EARTH CARDS (for chromatic componium, 2012)

Some satellite maps have been used as music score generators. Earth Cards are a series of pieces lasting between 30 and 50 seconds, each of them portraying a geographic zone. Every piece corresponds to a chromatic componium card 45 X 6,9 cm. On every single card a different satellite map has been printed. Cards have been punched freely following the dra- wings on the maps; in this way, lands, seas, mountains, deserts, islands become composition elements which regulate the rhythm and the harmony inside the piece. Every single section lasts 1 minute. In the remaining time between the end of the card and the next card (10 to 20 seconds) there is silence. Earth Cards have been originally commisioned by Roberto Castello for a coreography dedicated to John Cage in the 100 Anniversary of his birth.

RAIN CARDS per componium cromatico (2012)

Water drops, showers, thunders and rainbow. RAIN CARDS are a series of pieces lasting betwe- en 30 and 50 seconds, inspired by water dripping. The piece doesn’t want to be a mere imitation of nature; it’s more a sort of investigation into rhythm and harmony, exploring the possibilities of the chromatic componium, a fantastic music instrument, similar to a rudimentary example of a mechani- cal computer. Written directly on cards, the piece moves on the edge between music-by-chance and geometrical sketches. Every single section might last 1 minute. In the remaining time between the end of the card and the next card (10 to 20 seconds) there can be silence. Nevertheless the performer has the chance to play them also continuosly, creating a shorter pause between each single piece.
